Final week at Enrich!!!!!!!

This week is the final week at Enrich. I am only year 5 and I have one more year left!!!!!!!!
This year I have enjoyed Canstruction, Pig's eye dissection, Plant biography and lots of other things. Today we started off with the roll. I was near the end!!!!!!!! After we played 'All or Nothing' again. We lost. My team got 25 team 2 got 29 and Alana's team got 38. We did our environment projects. We planted everything we needed to!!!!!! The garden looks great!! At lunch we had sausages because it is our last day!! Soon we will do the technology challenge!!

We started with a Wilson game. There were three groups of 8. One was with Alana another was with Katie and the other was with Darryn. I was in Darryn's group. In the first round Katie's team got 11, Alana's team got 7 and Darryn's team got 14. Darryn's team got 58 points altogether, Alana's team got 20 points and Katie's team got 33 points. Darryn's team won!!!!!!!

Today we had a technology challange. This challange was based on the 80's show MacGyver. I was with Eddie and Charlie. You could only use 8 sheets of newspaper, 3 meters of cello tape, string, a plastic bag and 4 paper clips.  You had 15 minutes to make something that you could reach a mallet and a chisel. After the 15 minutes were up you had 1 minute to grab them with your gadget without moving your feet up, down, left, right back or forward. Ours looked like 4 sheets of newspaper in a row and at the front  there was a plastic bag like the image above.

Today I played Samantha in a game of chess. Nobody won because Samantha took two turns. After we packed up I played Charlie. I lost to Charlie. I had my King left and he had 2 pawns, his king, his queen and his rook. At the end of the game he got his queen back. I also played James. I only just lost. He had a pawn, a queen and a king. I had only my king.

This is a picture of daytime. They have to use car lights in the day.

The top most polluted city do not get the opportunity to see the stars.

The stars are a privilege for us. Some adults have not even seen the stars.

This week we played a  Wilson game called  Bull's Eye
To play, you will need:
4 hula hoops for each team4 bean bags for each teamDuck TapeA big open space.

How to play Bull's Eye:
1. Split players into teams.2. Get the duck tape and stick it down onto the ground in a line.3. Put the 4 hoops in a straight line going vertical.4. Get the bean bags and put 4 bean bags down by each hoop and then get the teams to line up by a  hoop.

5. When the judge says GO you pick up a bean bag and try get it in any hoop you want.

6. When one teams bean bags are all in the hoops without touching, the game stops.
The points for the hoops are the first hoop is worth 3 points. The second hoop is worth 6 points. The third hoop is worth 9 points and the end hoop is worth 12 points.

Today at Enrich I played chess. I played Alana. I lost to her twice. After I played Alana, I played Darryn. He got me in scholars , so Darryn played me again. I only just lost. I also played Brianna. She kept copying my every move I took until I took her horse with my rook. We just played a normal game after I took her horse. We never finished.

Hello . Today I did P4C with Alana. We watched the Zax. The Zax were walking around the world and they bumped in the middle. They stood there for 2 years. After 2 years, the Zax were in the middle of the highway. After watching the Zax Alana asked us what pride means. I said that it is something like an ongoing award or an award. We got asked what compromise means. It means taking a little bit of 1 idea and mashing it with a bit of another idea.

Today Jenni took us to make elephant toothpaste. This is one of the videos we looked at on You tube. Brianna and I made a red tube of elephant. This is a picture of our elephant toothpaste. We were not allowed to touch it because it could make our clothes turn white and also has poison.

Today we started with a game of leader board chess.  I played Sophie.  No one won because we had to pack up our chess set.  After we did some chess I did some tessellating with Darryn.  Darryn showed me a picture of everbodys that he had all through the week. I chose to do a fish.  I got most of it done. All I have to do is colour the fish in. I also played Darryn at abalone, I won the first game, Darryn won 6 times.

Habits Of Mind 15/6/12

This week at Enrich we started with a Wilson game. We did a game where you and your team had partnered up. After you have done that each team receives a balloon. I was with Libby. We lost by 1 pair and they  had to  go twice. After we did some habits of mind. Alana place 8 habit of mind sheets all  around the room. The 8  habits of mind were Finding humor, Taking responsible risks, Managing impulsivity, Gathering data from all senses, Applying past knowledge to new situations, Responding with wonderment and awe, Listening with understanding and empathy and Striving for accuracy.Finding humor means trying to find the funny side to things. Taking responsible risks means thinking about the risk you are taking. Managing impulsivity means thinking before acting. Gathering data from all senses means using all your senses and using them to gather data. Applying past knowledge to new situations means you use your past knowledge and make it useful in a new situation. Responding with wonderment and awe means having a wow factor for things you find intresting. Listening with understanding and empathy means listening to someone and responding in the way they feel. Striving for accuracy is having a target and aiming to reach it.

Talent Development 25/5/12

Today for talent development I used Google Sketch Up. We made our own Smurf. We all made circles 42.5mm round and 40.0mm high. After we made a circle we used a mouse tool to go over it and click command c and then command v. Then we had to make it into a row of 17. After we did 20 rows high. Man it was hard! Then when every tin was set up, we coloured the Smurf in. This is what it looks like.

Maths 18/5

Today my maths group and I decided if we were going to do our statue of a smurf head, lying down or standing up.After we decided Alana got out the compasses. We had to draw 8.5cm circles using the compass. My first one was 8.5cm. After we had a practice we drew on a white piece of paper. I failed my first go same with my second but my third circle was good. These circles were the size of the tins of food we will be making the sculptures out of. We did this so we could work out how many tins of food we would need. All the tins of food will later be donated to charities around Invercargill.

Canstruction 11/5/12

Today we started off with Talent Development.I am in the maths group. Our group is doing a canstruction of a smurf  head.We got someone called Regan to help us with what type of tins we need.He bought in some blue tins and some pale blue tins. We had to decide  on if we are going to use small cans or big cans. We chose small ones over big ones. We chose the small cans because we could have more detail for our sculpture.

Wearable art

Today we went to the wearable arts. We looked at lots of different dresses that were made out of lots of different materials. There was a glow in the dark tent that had some glow lights inside.I was wearing white inside the tent so my top, shorts, socks and shoes glowed.All of the art work was amazing to look at and the material was all different, some was soft, some were metal, some were glow in the dark.

Today I played a chess leader board game against Meg and Libby. I lost both of my games.  I am now fourth on the leader board.  Next week I am going to challenge them again so that I can get back up to second!
