Mayor Tim interview 31.8.11

Today Kate , Phoenix and I went to see Mayor Tim. Here are the questions I asked him.

1. In your opinion why is Southland such a great place?
Southland is a great place because it is a genuine New Zealand City. Over 78% of Southlander's were born in Southland and most of the remaining 12% would be adopted Kiwis from numerous other regions.

2. What is your favourite thing about Southland and why?
Innovation is the key to success so my favourite thing about 'Southland' is the spirit of Burt Munro.

3. If there was one thing you could make better about Southland what would it be and why?
An International Airport. If we could fly to Perth direct we would be part of a loop rather than at the end of no exit highway.

4. What things have you done to change Southland?
As Mayor I'm involed in all the Mayoral projects in Invercargill. Splash Palace, Stadium Southland, the Velodrome, Zero Fees, The World's Fastest Indian, Sting, Steel, Stags, Civic Theatre, Inner City upgrade, Awarua Industrial Park, Bluff Events and Oil economic development.

Chess 24.8.11

Today we started off with a game of leader board chess. Today I played Callum. I bet him. He only had his king and 2 pawns. I had my Queen, 4 pawns , 2 rooks and my king. My king was in the same line as Callum's king, my queen was on an angle to his king and both of my rooks was like a knight getting the king into check. I was 5 spaces underneath Callum on the leader board.

Teacher comment

Claudia you embraced the new challenges of your service learning based passion project and worked successfully as part of a team to make a real difference in the lives of others. You also worked hard to get more posts on your blog to share all that new learning with others. Your time management is improving and as a result you are more successful and confident when taking on new challenges. Keep up the good work.

Chess 3.8.11

This is a photo of a glow in the dark chess set.Today it was our first day back and we played a game of chess at the start of the day. I played Meg. I got her into check in two moves but she got herself out of check by moving her queen on an angle. I ended up losing but I enjoyed it so much. I can not wait until next week!
